I just got this newsletter through email from British Sitcom Guide.
DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!
We asked Channel 4 about this special and they told us that it is currently being edited (at the moment it stands at a rather unwieldy two and a half hours long uncut!). They also said: "the 'Special' is not yet scheduled for broadcast (but may happen pre-Xmas)", so GW fans we might not have to wait quite as long as first thought! The episode could technically be shown as early as October.
One small thing to clear up - this special is not themed around Christmas, in fact thankfully you'll see no Xmas trees or anything like that in the episode. It's just going to be one super special final GW episode! We already know some of the plot outline of the episode (if you'd rather not find this out skip on to the next section now)...
- As we exclusively reported in the last newsletter Angela dies (who, as you may remember, departed the hospital earlier in the series on the way to a new career)! Her funeral is attended by some of the hospital staff including Guy and Caroline. Part of this scene has been revealed in a BBC comedy documentary which was broadcast on BBC1 a while back. It can be seen on YouTube.
- There will be definitely be at least one wedding! Who is getting married though we'll have to wait and see. Based on Green Wing in the past we can pretty much guarantee it won't be quite as expected so Dr Mac fans maybe need not feel as distressed as the currently do. After all, we know a couple of the writers and don't think they're that cruel to really stick it to Mac as currently appears to be the case?!? Don't forget they're known for their plot twists!
and a little about the dvd:

and a little about the dvd:
In fact we can reveal here first that the launch of the R2 series two DVD is scheduled for this October. The DVD should contain a number of additional extras including some great behind-the-scenes stuff (its normally always the case that more effort is put into the extras once a title has proved itself to be capable of good sales). For example fans at the signing session earlier in the year may have spotted the DVD people there filming some stuff for this DVD.
A representative for 4DVD suggested that the 'special' will have to be released as a separate DVD as it is unlikely to have been broadcast by the time this second DVD hits the shops.
Oh and some potential good news for international fans - it seems that 4DVD are finally thinking about producing Region 1 and Region 4 releases of the first season for you at last. A spokesperson told us "I'm pretty sure there are plans for North America and Australia releases, but I don't have any details at the moment"

For Our American Friends:
In regards to BBC America - they definitely appear to be changing their minds about showing season two, in fact we're pretty confident they'll now pick it up. For the record their official line is currently: "no decision has been made yet on whether we're buying it or not". Watch this space.
